The name change resulted from a five-year trademark dispute with apparel giant Nautica, who claims trademark rights to any commercially branded use of the word or word combination that includes “nauti.” Nauti Gear challenged Nautica’s claims for as long as it made financial sense. Once Nautica made it clear that their deep pockets would guarantee their success, Nauti Gear decided to build the company’s future under the brand identity of its creator and founder, Ella Vickers. Nauti Gear will relinquish its web domain name, ellavickers.net, along with its business name on the same date as the official name change. The new domain name, ellavickers.com, has already gone live and is fully functioning as of this announcement. According to the settlement, the new company, Ella Vickers, does not face any other corporate restrictions or changes to its business practices, product design or marketing efforts. We anticipate a seamless switch to our new brand identity and will continue to showcase the green line of both practical and beautiful accessories and gear that appeal to environmentally- and style-conscious individuals.
